About this pattern

This is an amigurumi sheep pattern built from a muzzle worked over 17 rounds, four legs worked over 4 rounds each, and two ears worked over 1 round each, using two yarn weights and two hook sizes (4.0 mm for white, 2.5 mm for beige). Safety eyes go in between Round 4 and Round 5 of the muzzle at 8 stitches apart, with ears, front legs, and hind legs joined at later specified rounds, then finished with embroidered floss, felt cheeks, and fiberfill.

This amigurumi sheep builds from a muzzle worked in two yarns on two hooks: a 4.0 mm hook for white Himalaya Dolphin Baby and a 2.5 mm hook for beige YarnArt Jeans. The 5 mm safety eyes go in between Round 4 and Round 5, set 8 stitches apart, before ears join at Round 8/9, front legs at Round 9/10, and hind legs at Round 13/14. The number that governs the whole face is that 8-stitch eye spacing.

Tester's notes

4.0 mm hook is for the white Himalaya Dolphin Baby sections; keep the 2.5 mm hook reserved for the beige YarnArt Jeans sections so the two fibers do not get swapped mid-piece.

8 stitches is the fixed distance between the two 5 mm safety eyes — count out from center before pushing posts through, since muzzle shaping makes eye position hard to fix after insertion.

Insert eyes between Round 4 and Round 5, not after the muzzle is complete; later rounds close up access to the inside of the piece.

Stuff the muzzle before closing the final round, adding fiberfill in small amounts so the embroidered pink floss nose sits on a firm, evenly rounded surface rather than a soft spot.

Attach ears at Round 8/9, front legs at Round 9/10, and hind legs at Round 13/14 in that order — joining out of sequence shifts where later rounds need to sit relative to the eyes.

Gauge check

No stitch or round measurement in inches or centimeters is given, so judge the muzzle after Round 4 by fabric density: stitches should sit close enough that fiberfill will not show through once stuffed.

If the fabric gapes at Round 4, drop to a smaller hook than the stated 4.0 mm for that section; if stitches are tight enough to distort the row of 8 stitches between eye placements, size up.

Stitch-count checkpoints

If something looks wrong

The 5 mm safety eyes sit unevenly or too close together
The 8-stitch spacing was measured from the wrong starting stitch or counted around a round rather than across the row between Round 4 and Round 5. Remove and recount both directions before repushing the posts.
The beige and white sections pull or pucker where they meet
This points to the 2.5 mm hook being swapped for the 4.0 mm hook (or vice versa) partway through a section. Confirm which hook matches which yarn before continuing past the join.
Legs or ears sit at an angle instead of square to the body
Front legs attach between Round 9 and Round 10 and hind legs between Round 13 and Round 14 — attaching even one round early or late shifts the angle. Remove and reattach at the stated rounds.
The embroidered nose looks lumpy or sunken
Fiberfill was added unevenly before embroidering the pink floss nose. Redistribute stuffing to firm and flatten the muzzle surface, then re-embroider over a consistent base.

Yarn substitutions

Acrylic baby weight (light/DK)Closest match to the Himalaya Dolphin Baby sections; keep the 4.0 mm hook. Expect similar size and a slightly fuzzier surface depending on brush finish.
Cotton-acrylic blend, sport weightMatches the YarnArt Jeans weight for the beige sections; keep the 2.5 mm hook. Stitches firm up and drape less, which holds detail around the 8-stitch eye spacing better.
100% cotton, DK weightWorks for either color section but needs a half-size-down hook from the stated 4.0 mm or 2.5 mm to keep stitch density tight enough to hide fiberfill.
FAQs

Questions

Why does the pattern use two different hook sizes?

The 4.0 mm hook matches the thicker Himalaya Dolphin Baby yarn used for the white sections, and the 2.5 mm hook matches the finer YarnArt Jeans yarn for the beige sections. Using one hook for both leaves one yarn too loose or too tight.

What size are the safety eyes and how far apart do they go?

The pattern calls for 5 mm safety eyes, inserted between Round 4 and Round 5 of the muzzle. They sit 8 stitches apart, measured across the row rather than around it.

In what order should legs and ears be attached?

Ears join between Round 8 and Round 9, front legs between Round 9 and Round 10, and hind legs between Round 13 and Round 14. Attaching them out of this sequence shifts their position relative to the eyes already set.
