Crochet Addiction · a crochet pattern book
A pattern book,
set in type and proofed by hand.
Volume I35 plates
Crochet patterns set out plate by plate — every round in order, the stitch count in brackets at the end of each — and set in type only after Wren has worked them at the bench. Every leaf is free to read.
Crochet Addiction Press · edition of 2026 · indigo, madder and leaf on vellum
Contents
Plates are numbered in the order they were set and keep their number for good. Chapters are by subject; editions by how much the plate asks of you.
How a plate earns its place
The proofing bench
Nothing is set until it has been through all three. A plate that fails the third step goes back to the first.
-
Worked
Wren makes the piece herself, in the yarn and the hook the plate names, before a word of it is written. A pattern that has not been worked is a guess.
-
Counted
Every round is counted as it comes off the hook and the count goes in brackets at its end. That number is the checkpoint you work to.
-
Set
Only then is the plate set in type, in US terms, with its abbreviations on the same leaf. If the photograph and the counts disagree, it is not set.

Errata
A proofed plate can still be wrong. When one is, the correction is listed here with its date and the plate is reset, so a square you worked last month can be checked against the book as it stands today.
No errata yet for this edition.
When a count or a round on a plate already set turns out to be wrong, the correction is dated and listed here, and the plate itself is reset. If you find one before Wren does, write to her with the plate and the round — that is how the book stays honest.
Four sorts, pulled from the case
From the type case
Every abbreviation a plate uses is spelled out on that plate. These four are the ones you will meet first; the case holds the rest.
