About this pattern

This pattern makes a stuffed bull amigurumi, about 19cm (7.5 inches) tall, worked with a 2.5mm hook in Cazzal Baby Cotton, brown #3424 and beige #3437. Increase rounds follow the standard sequence from 12 to 18 to 24 stitches. 8mm safety eyes and firm stuffing finish the shape. Expect two color sections and several repeated increase rounds across the different pieces.

This amigurumi bull works in continuous single crochet rounds with a 2.5mm hook and Cazzal Baby Cotton in two colors, brown #3424 for one part and beige #3437 for another. Each shaped piece builds through the standard increase sequence: 6 inc for 12, then (1 sc, inc) x6 for 18, then (2 sc, inc) x6 for 24. The finished bull stands about 19cm (7.5 inches) tall, with 8mm safety eyes set before stuffing closes the final rounds.

Tester's notes

2.5mm hook keeps the single crochet tight enough that 8mm safety eyes sit flush without gapping between stitches.

12, 18, and 24 are the stitch counts to check at the end of rounds 2, 3, and 4; a miscount at any of these carries through every later round of that piece.

Two colors are used: brown #3424 at roughly a 1/4 skein and beige #3437 at roughly a 1/2 skein, so measure or weigh yarn before starting if splitting partial skeins across pieces.

A stitch marker on round 1 and at each increase round prevents drift, since rounds are worked continuously without a join or turn.

Stuff firmly before closing the last round of a piece, especially where 8mm safety eyes are set, since the posts need a solid surface behind them to sit flush.

Gauge check

After round 4, count stitches around: the total should sit at 24 if round 2 closed at 12 and round 3 closed at 18.

If something looks wrong

The piece cups instead of lying flat after round 4.
Stitch count has fallen behind the target of 24; recount from round 2 (12) and round 3 (18) forward and add any missed increases before continuing.
Safety eyes wobble or sit at an angle.
The 8mm eyes were placed before enough stuffing packed in behind them; remove, pack stuffing solid around the posts, then reset the eyes.
Fabric looks loose with visible gaps between stitches.
A larger hook crept in somewhere along the way; return to the stated 2.5mm hook and keep tension even through each increase round.

Yarn substitutions

Mercerized cotton, sport weightProduces a slightly smaller bull than the 19cm (7.5 inch) target with firmer stitch definition; drop to a 2.25mm hook to keep stitches tight enough to hide stuffing.
Acrylic, DK weightAdds more drape and pushes the finished size above 19cm; a 2.5-3mm hook keeps stitches dense enough for the 8mm safety eye posts to grip.
Cotton-acrylic blend, worsted weightCloser in thickness to the called-for Baby Cotton and holds shape without extra stuffing, but check the round 4 count (24) since blends can run wider than the stated cotton.
FAQs

Questions

How much yarn does each color take?

The pattern calls for roughly 1/4 skein of brown #3424 and 1/2 skein of beige #3437 in Cazzal Baby Cotton. Weigh leftover skein portions before starting if working from partial skeins, since beige covers the larger share of the pieces.

When do the 8mm safety eyes go in?

They go in once the relevant piece reaches the stitch count for eye placement, before the opening is closed and stuffing is finished. Insert them early enough to pack stuffing firmly around the posts so they sit flush rather than sunken or raised.
